Gravel & Aggregates

Construction gravel and aggregate, or simply “aggregate”, is a broad category of coarse particulate material used in construction, including class 5 gravel, sand, crushed stone, limestone gravel, recycled concrete and asphalt.

Clear aggregates are used in landscaping and help provide drainage. Clear aggregates are also useful for water filtration. Water will percolate through a trench filled with clear aggregate faster than it will through the surrounding soil.

Aggregates with fines are typically used to provide base for driveways, parking lots, pathways and roadways.

This product is what we recycle out of the materials that are hauled into our pit to be crushed. This product is mostly gravel but may contain a percentage of clay or black dirt. It is best suited for filling in areas where compactible material is needed and is sold at a very cost- effective price. It may be necessary to top this material off with class 5 limestone or recycle.

Aggregates for better foundations

Building a shed or summerhouse in your yard? When preparing the foundations, gaps and trenches may be filled with aggregate, because it is easier to compact than the original soil that was removed, resulting in a more solid finish that will support the structure. Aggregates generally are not affected by the weather as much as soils, particularly clay soils. This makes the structure more stable as the aggregates will not be prone to shrinkage, as much as soil.

Unpaved roads and parking areas may be covered in a surface layer of aggregate to provide a more solid surface for vehicles, from cycles to trucks. This prevents the vehicles from sinking into the soil, particularly during wet weather.
